WHAT WE DO?

Ask An Expert

LOCAL WORKFORCE

The key to our success is attributable to our most valuable asset: our work force. It is our people who work ceaselessly through the long hours required to perform the tasks needed to succeed in today’s very competitive oil and gas industry. We are proud to announce that our workforce today is made up of 77 present of Arab nationals, compared to only 22 present in 1980. That remarkable increase is just one of the goals embarked upon and achieved by our company.

Throughout our history, another mainstay of our goals has been the simple, and obviously essential aim of keeping our rigs working. To this end we have achieved an average rig utilisation of over 90 present over the 38 years of our existence. This has given us the benefit of continuity, albeit sometimes at the expense of profit. On the other hand it has allowed us to keep and maintain our most valuable asset, our workforce, and accordingly their training and advancement in our organisation.

In addition to our core business of providing the industry with drilling and workover rigs, ADWOC is also able to offer its clients supporting services including tool and equipment rental, inspection, blow-out preventer (BOP) repair services and testing. Moreover, in conjunction with our established contractors, we supply transportation, including the provision of fuel and water supplies, civil works, such as well site preparation, access roads and airstrips etc., and the supervision of client supply bases and/or storage facilities.

MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS

ADWOC field operations are supported by two desert bases, one in the Sirte Basin at 103A, and one in the Murzuk Basin at NC115. The main desert base at 103A houses maintenance shops for heavy and light vehicles, a Caterpillar engine rebuild facility, CNC lathe facilities, a stabiliser rebuild shop and oxygen filling facilities. A landmark for ADWOC was the opening of the BOP rebuild facility, which was opened in the second quarter of 2008. This facility provides services to our own rigs as well as to our clients and thus became a major source of income.

Our maintenance programme is based on a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance System (PMS) covering all significant rig components. Certification of critical structures – such as derricks and rigs – is maintained either by a third party or the original equipment manufacturer. All ADWOC’s equipment complies with the relevant API standards. We are proud to announce that our repair times for 2010 were held to 1.2 present for ADWOC-owned rigs and 3.5 present for leased rigs.

One of our aims was to become accredited by international bodies so that training could be held in-house, and this was achieved in 2006 when our training centre was accredited by the International Well Control Forum (IWCF). As was the case with our desert base services, we soon attracted business from various other companies, and today ADWOC conducts courses not only for its own staff, but also for others in the oilfield community.

ADWOC’s safety department was put in place when the company was established in 1980.

This reflects the importance the company has always placed on the protection from harm of its most important asset: its people. Through membership of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) and the British Safety Council, the department helps the company to remain in line with international safety standards and the best oil and gas industry  practices worldwide.
While maintaining our own safety standards, we are always eager to learn from our clients and adopt their safety methods and standards whenever these exceed the existing ADWOC ones. When a special or specific need arises for safety related equipment or services, the safety department works closely with the client and relevant authorities to develop tailor-made solutions.
Our performance during the years 2007 through 2010 was the most successful in ADWOC’s history. We hope the future will bring similar results; however, as this industry has shown in the past, we must always be prepared to rely on our ability to adapt to suit changing times.
